If&Then Thursday #1

If&Then Thursdays is a weekly meme created by Alex @ Young at Hearts Books.

How do you participate? It’s easy! All you have to do is choose two books that are somewhat related in theme, writing style, genre, etc. Tell us how they are similar and why we would like them! All recommendations should be made in this format:

“If you like Book A, then you might enjoy Book B”

I’m honestly so into these weekly memes now. Found this last week and I just loved how amazing this meme is. Hopefully you’ll find this helpful.

Here are my recommendations for this week:

Geekerella by Ashley Poston

Anything can happen once upon a con…

When geek girl Elle Wittimer sees a cosplay contest sponsored by the producers of Starfield, she has to enter. First prize is an invitation to the ExcelsiCon Cosplay Ball and a meet-and-greet with the actor slated to play Federation Prince Carmindor in the reboot. Elle’s been scraping together tips from her gig at the Magic Pumpkin food truck behind her stepmother’s back, and winning this contest could be her ticket out once and for all—not to mention a fangirl’s dream come true.

Teen actor Darien Freeman is less than thrilled about this year’s ExcelsiCon. He used to live for conventions, but now they’re nothing but jaw-aching photo sessions and awkward meet-and-greets. Playing Federation Prince Carmindor is all he’s ever wanted, but the diehard Starfield fandom has already dismissed him as just another heartthrob. As ExcelsiCon draws near, closet nerd Darien feels more and more like a fake—until he meets a girl who shows him otherwise.

This is What Happy Looks Like by Jennifer E. Smith

If fate sent you an email, would you answer?

When teenage movie star Graham Larkin accidentally sends small town girl Ellie O’Neill an email about his pet pig, the two seventeen-year-olds strike up a witty and unforgettable correspondence, discussing everything under the sun, except for their names or backgrounds.

Then Graham finds out that Ellie’s Maine hometown is the perfect location for his latest film, and he decides to take their relationship from online to in-person. But can a star as famous as Graham really start a relationship with an ordinary girl like Ellie? And why does Ellie want to avoid the media’s spotlight at all costs?

Why? Both are Young Adult books. And both books have the same teenage-movie-star-falls-for-a-small-town-girl theme in it. I really loved both the books and it’s a perfect summer reads.

Have you read either of these books? Do you know any other books like these? Let’s discuss in the comments down below!

Oooooh, I never thought about it that way, Renuka, but you’re SO right. Totally have the same feeling to it. I remember starting to enjoy This Is What Happy Looks Like, but then I totally fell apart on it and stopped reading it for some odd reason. Can’t remember why. Might have to pick it up again now that I remember it and it reminds me of Geekerella. Wonderful choice!!

(And yes, I’m so moving my butt over to Instagram. I so got distracted by family drama this weekend and totally failed. I know you said no sorries, but sorry again! D: I WILL GET THIS SOON. XD)

Thanks and I’m glad you liked my post. Plus, honestly both these books made me insanely jealous, like why can’t some star texts/emails me by mistake! 😅
(And it’s totally okay! Honestly you have to stop saying sorry over small things like these.)
